Defunct Mods & Total Conversions
It happens. A lot of mods have ceased to develop and progressively disappeared over the years.
indicates that the mod appears in TA:Mutation compatible format. |

The Thunderball mod arrived in a brief blast of publicity, and then the site for it all but disappeared. Version two is out. Thunderball culls those units that, in the eyes of its makers, weren't being used. Its fast, furious and simpler, and flies in the face of the usual approach of modding TA. There are a few special units to fill in a few holes after the big cull, the economic build is much simpler, and some of the units have been shrunk in physical size. You can try accessing the modder's home site. Good luck. Site and mod missing! |

GHack
(Direct file link)
Non-TA:M Version |
|
GHack is a retune of the original game, pepped up with a shot of adrenaline. There aren't any new units (except the Core Commander's been replaced). Essentially, every unit has been sped up, its range increased, and in the case of advanced units, dangerously rearmed with custom weapons. E.g. most K-Bots now barrel along at PeeWee speed and have the range of a basic missile truck. Arm's machine gun units, the Peewee, Flash Tank and others have their lag inducing weapons replaced by single firing weapons. Resourcing gets a shot in the arm, but sensibly: e.g. Moho Mines get to extract more than twice what they normally do, but need 100E to run. You have to produce an increased amount of resourcing to power this upgrade. Best played on bigger maps. Worth a look. See the Ghack modder's homepage. Current Version: 0.6A. Site and mod missing! |

Invasion 2213 |
|
By Chris Jogenson, creator of the Mynn third race. Invasion 2213 is a four sided conflict where the Xenoclone and the Kaje are locked in a galaxy wide conflict. Their conflict spills onto Earth, where they run into the local's elite defenders: the 2213 USA Army. On top of that, Earth's old Gods and Heroes decide to wade into the action. This is a mod designed with the emphasis on gameplay, not a storyline that necessarily makes sense. But it looks like it has been cancelled. |

Joined Tribe,
The
 |
|
This is another third race opposed to Arm and Core. Story's a bit vague but runs along the lines of the planet Longview being destroyed by the galactic war between Arm and Core, with the locals tooling up with retrofitted bits culled from both sides to resist them. From then on, the newly formed Joined Tribe seeks retribution, joining forces with anyone else who has suffered under the Arm-Core conflict. TJT comes in two versions. There's the "classic" version from the original authors, and a newer version being assembled by Starlight TA Research (S.T.A.R.) at TA Designers. Current version: 1.05. The TJT website doesn't work properly under Mozilla. |

MAGMA Pack

|
|
MAGMA is a French site dedicated to TA custom unit and map design. The MAGMA Unit Pack contains some wild and woolly units with a different flavour to the usual English speaking design groups. Units are highly detailed and textured, with some of the highlights being the Ice and Fire Angels which can also be found in the TAUCP mod. Current version: 7. Site has disappeared. |

French modding site MAGMA's Micropack is just that, a set of fifty very small units to augment the usual lineup. So far this unit pack has crashed on me a lot, so I really can't say much more at this stage. Current version: 1.0. Site has disappeared. |

Mynn |
|
The Mynn is an old custom race harking wa-a-ay back in time to the early days of TA modding, replacing both Arm and Core. In fact, all of Cavedog's original content, which at the time was a pretty novel move. This mod scandalised the TA community because its author, Chris Jorgenson, charged a fee for its use. At the time the pack was considered pretty flash to warrant the price tag, but these days it looks a little plain, with a simple geometric look. This mod replaces the TotalA.exe with its own executable; and there's next to no documentation anywhere, either. Chris has his own website, Xenoclone and was building a (now abandoned) four sided race mod, Invasion 2213. Both of which have disappeared. |

The TA MOD: Battle for Paradise is a total conversion that promises to replace Arm and Core with the greedy industrial Moon Industries and a breakaway outfit of mad scientists called the Techno Wizards. Both haggle over control of an Earth like planet discovered outside the Solar System. Earth sends in a third force, the Peacekeepers, to calm things down on this new outpost, while a fourth group called Nature Tech, appears to preserve the planet's original nature. All to the death, of course. Each group will sport a different unit philosophy. Last version: release 1.0. This mod has been officially cancelled. |

TA Plus: All this mod does is pit two of the more notable custom TA races against each other in the one package: M.A.D.TA's Rumadians and Monolithic Inc.'s Rhyoss race. Mod Lost with TAFanSite.com going pear shaped. |

Proturans, The |

A new custom race for the game: the Proturans only seen to have started production in September 2004. This is the in-house custom race from an equally new and modestly sized TA design site: TA House. Oop! Its disappeared.

A bilingual French unit design site. MAGMA designs units with distinctive and imaginative flair. Their units may appear over clocked for some tastes, but they all seem to be intricately modeled, animated and scripted with a strong Japanimation flavour. Among other things, MAGMA is responsible for the Ice and Fire Angels found in the TAUCP mega unit pack that are expressly used to counter the Krogoth class colossi from dominating the game. Total Annihilation
Encyclopedia Galactica |
|
Or TAEG. A virtual tome that planned to itemise all things to do with the Total Annihilation. It includes all the original info found in the game manual and a few other bits. Its very incomplete and doesn't appear to have seen any action since 2002. I think this migrated across to the newer TA Wikipedia. |

Total Annihilation:
the OFP Mod |
|
This a total conversion of the tactical squad-based military FPS Operation Flashpoint. Still in its early days, and with little to see (except for a mildly interesting Flash interface that rapidly tests your patience). The OFP Mod plans to convert all the vehicles soldiers into TA Vehicles, Aircraft and K-Bots. Interesting. Site lost! |

Total Annihilation FanSite is a massive site that whose best feature is the TA Unit Shop, a huge library of custom units for Total Annihilation. It sort of picks up with the TAUEC leaves off. What makes this particular unit archive so compelling is the sheer amount of work that has been poured into it, not to mention the colossal size of the library itself and the translating of units into French and Deutsche. It recently underwent a few alterations, but it still a good choice for a browse for single units or packs. Start here if you want to fool around with individual units, or check out some mods, maps, articles or the Unreal Annihilation project, which the FanSite hosts.Site gone pear shaped! |
