TA "Real World" Total Conversions

indicates that the mod appears in TA:Mutation compatible format. |

A mini-mod (one that reduces the number of units and features) for TA that features only one resource, and only uses ground units: infantry and realistic tanks. Current version: beta 0.5.

AATA is a World War II themed total conversion that intends to replicate as best as possible the authenticity and weaponry of the period. Some units will have no counters, such as kamikazes and V2 rockets, and players will have to learn how to avoid these units as the original commanders in the war had to. TA's resource model is fundamentally altered: metal production is replaced by "manpower" and energy with "logistics". This looks like a serious attempt at some period wargaming. AATA will eventually produce its own tilesets and specialised features, and ultimately pack five powers (the US and Germany as main powers, followed by Japan, Britain and the Soviet Union as add-ons). Considerable research and effort is going on here: this is well worth keeping an eye on. See also, TA Operation Barbarossa, below. Current version: 0.9 beta. Looks like its winding up. |

TA Operation Barbarossa |
|
A serious custom mod pitting the Axis against the Soviets against the backdrop of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union during the Second World War. So far, this mod is in its early days and there are no downloads, but the models look recognizably authentic and detailed. Worth keeping an eye on. There's been little activity for a while since the author is currently in the Finnish military and production on this total conversion has effectively stalled. See also Axis & Allies TA (AATA), above. |

World Domination |
|
TA World Domination (TAWD) changes Total Annihilation into a contemporary-like war game, pitting a NATO coalition against a Soviet styled Mospact. The overall effect is for realism - well, within TA's parameters, anyway. It uses modern weapons, such as attack helicopters, tanks, naval units and marines - no lasers, lightning bolts or K-Bots. The Commander is replaced by a Command Vehicle, a giant battle tank equipped with a nanolathe and a power arsenal of weapons. This is a total conversion in the true sense of the word, although all concerned still use nanolathes to build, capture and salvage with. The whole affair looks, feels and sounds a lot like Red Alert. Units are small and understated - unlike most TA customs that are usually over the top.
Infantry can be churned out by the horde very quickly, and all of them look like specks, identifiable only by what they shoot. Infantry warfare can be very fast and very brutal. You can conjure up a whole swarm of different infantry in a flash, but watch them all die just as quickly to a few well placed Pillboxes. Snipers can wreak havoc on infantry with little effort. But weapon effects are very cool: missiles in particular are worth the download - fast, long ranged and deadly. Tanks tend to be a little anonymous, just small boxes with different length cannons and different camouflage patterns to distinguish between them. A lightly armoured Bradley fighting vehicle doesn't look much different from the hulking great Abrams M1 Main Battle Tank. However, the attention to detail is evident and the tanks all fill special niches. Shipping takes time to build, and apart from a basic naval yard you only get a cross section of modern shipping - and a nuclear sub. Ships are expensive, but their capacity for long range destruction is astonishing. The line-up of aircraft is fantastic - with a wide selection of recognisable fighters, bombers, antitank and helicopter gunships to blow things up with. B-52s and Tupelov Bears excel at massive bombing raids and quickly steal the show. Tomcats, MiGs, AWACs, Apache attack helicopters, A-10 tank killers, F22 stealth fighters... they're all there.TAWD comes with its own hacked executable, which you run instead of TotalA.exe, making it incompatible with TA:Mutation, has its own WD custom AI and you can download a set of maps made for it. Current version: 4.0. Other TAWD related links: Ground_Zero's page.
TAWD is compatible with the TA Spring Project. |

WW2 Reborn |
|
A new World War II mod pitting German and Russian forces against each other. The aim here is to try a few things that haven't been seen before in a TA mod, like getting troops to look up when shooting into the air or to have tanks that actually have moving caterpillar treads. Although... this isn't like your typical WW2 custom mod getting neurotic about historical accuracy: pictured left is the Scout Pterodactyl, built from the Time Machine Factory. Hmm... interesting! Definitely more to come soon on this one. Site missing - try its newer forums. Current version: 0.53. |
