Vanished, dead or cancelled Mods
Oh, how I hate having to do this page. But after a while,
sites go quiet, files dry up, servers go down and somehow
never return quite the same. These are the dead mods. Often,
you'll find a pickled version of a dead mod at JST-Online's
Discontinued Mods section.
Mods are declared "dead" if there's a formal declaration
by the modders announcing its demise, or the website hosting
it vanishes and no other signs of life can be found. Should
they reappear, then they'll be restored to life again. Let
me know. |

0083
Stardust Memory: A Gundam
total conversion for Homeworld that jumped to the greener pastures
of the Homeworld2 engine before quietly
dying from chronic inactivity. For what it's worth, you can
track its history at its RelicNews
Forum. It never produced anything.

Alternative
Ships Mod |
|
A custom mod where every
ship is replaced by new custom models. Why? Because they're
there! Has anything happened yet? Not since
2002... |

Annihilation
Mod |
|
A now discontinued mod
(look here
at JST-Online.
The Annihilation Mod lurks amongst
many others in JST's downloads section. It retunes Homeworld
so that the Kushan get more accurate weapons, but the Taiidan
get less accurate but more devastating ones. |

Babylon
5:
Dark Age Mods |
|
This
was another active Babylon 5 TC site that went down with its
TGU
Host. The Dark Age Mods
were based around hi-jinks with the villainous Shadows
and other nefarious beasties that menaced the original TV
series', concentrating on the Centauri Empire
(those way out Napoleanic retro guys with the way out sideways
mohawk haircuts) who seem to be going into a bit of a decline.
The scary black Shadow ships are
definitely a winning feature. This was a site where the fans
had a complete romp - lots of over the top warships'n'stuff
for any breathless fans to sink their teeth into. The regular
game shipping gets completely slaughtered by the customs,
but its a definite contender for some serious custom netgaming.
Current version: 1 (plus patch).
Both downloads are available here
and here
at JST-Online.
Racy screengrabs can be found here
at the Homeworld
Screenshot Archive. |

Babylon
5:
Movement of Fire & Shadow
Dark Vengeance |
|
A pair
of Babylon 5 mods, one for Homeworld
and one for Cataclysm.
Once again, both concern dark and nefarious to'ings and fro'ings
with the dreaded Shadows and their
secretive plans, corrupting the human Clark
government on Earth and preying on the fading Centauri
empire, desperate to return to pre-eminence. Both mods
were still in their early days, both at version 0.2,
when the mod was discontinued in 2002 and the site
disappeared along with The Gaming Union's webserver.
You can can find a copy of both mods here
at JST-Online. |

Battlefleet
Gothic |
|
Set in the Warhammer
40,000 tabletop figurine gaming world, Battlefleet
Gothic is the outer-space component where the mighty
armies truck around in space before blowing each other up on
the field. The ships have an interesting baroque look in this
total conversion, changing the feel of Homeworld considerably.
There are three sides: Imperial (human),
Eldar (ancient super-powerful Elven
style magic users) and Orks (gun totin',
tank drivin' over the top Orcs). Site deteriorating!
Actually, this might have migrated
across to Homeworld 2. |

Battlestar
Galactica TC |
|
A conversion that changes
the Homeworld races into those funky Cylons and the clean cut
Colonial Forces. The original mod disappeared online, but a
new group seem to have resurrected the project. Oh
oh - its gone again. Try this big Battlestar
Galactica fan page and look halfway down under Games
or go for the downloadable here
at JST-Online.

BattleTech
Space Wars (BTSW): A now discontinued BattleTech
mod that made the jump to Homeworld2
(as the now defunctBTSW2)
where it seemed to fizzle out there, too. Instead of focusing
on big mechs clumping on the ground, BTSW's
goal was to model the spacefleets that trucked them between
the stars. There is a download for this, however, the 1.0
beta version can be found at the Discontinued
Mods / Project page at its old host, Battlemech
Mod Productions (BMP). Status: Closed. |

Carrier
OPS |

A
fighter and corvette orientated mod that eliminates all Capital
Craft save the Carrier and the Support
Frigate. Nothing but dogfights with Strikecraft and Corvettes,
all the way! Originally produced by
The OutPost, now since lost.

Conquerors
TC |

A Homeworld mod based
on the Conquerors'
Saga of science fiction books. Since this science fiction
series doesn't describe its ships in detail, the team is building
all its ships from scratch on their own designs. Link

The
Derelicts
Mod converts all Kushan shipping
with the out-takes and derelicts found in the Taros
Graveyard single player mission amd some old, unused
folders buried deep within the Homeworld .big
data file. The Taiidan are replaced
by the Turanic Raiders, who retain
a few Taiidan ships along the way, while a number of extra
custom models are added to fill in any other gaps. Site
lost! Try here

Empire
vs
Republic |
|
A Star
Wars total conversion using Homeworld, based on the Star
Wars: Fleet Academy (SWFA) mod. If I've got it right,
what Empire vs Republic (EvR) mod does
is lay a Java based interface over the top of this custom mod
to allow players to give orders in a strategic meta map and
then sit back and watch the Homeworld engine act them out. EvR
is based on an old turn based Star Wars email game, except
this time they're hoping to combine it with a real time 3D engine.
Sounds interesting - but alas it went down
with its TGU host and never came back up again. |

FARSCAPE
Homeworld: A total conversion that transforms the Homeworld
ships into the ships of the Farscape
TV series. The organic hero spaceship Moya
becomes the Mothership (of course!) while all the wild and woolly
vehicles that appeared through the series will come together
to make up the good guys and bad guys shipping. I have it on
good authority that the Farscape Mod
has now been declared finished and released upon an
unsuspecting public: you'll find the mod in their Hangar
section, and can chase further info at its forums.
Current version: 1.1 It
was cancelled - or rather, migrated across to the Homeworld2
engine....where it petered out. |

Fleet
Action |
|
Changes the Homeworld
ship lines to those of the Wing
Commander game series. The site hasn't been updated since
2002, when it moved to a new (non-existent!) site, and the old
files date back to 2000. Dead? |

Kadeshi
Void
Mod |
|
Another
Kadeshi mod. For some reason the distinctive Kadehsi mushroom-needle
shaped motherships have been dropped for a large, non-descript
flying saucer. Losing those memorable ships from the single
player missions seems to almost undo the whole point of why
you'd want to play the Kadesh in the first place. You can find
a downloadable here
from JST-Online.
Current version: 1.0 Alpha. Mod
discontinued! |

MacrossTC
(Do You Remember Love?) |
|
If there's one thing
that characterises Japanese anime and manga, its an extraordinary
sense of industrial design and a propensity for really silly
movie titles. (Bubblegum Crisis anyone?) Homeworld
is converted into the (endless) Japanese anime classic:
Super Dimension Fortress: Macross. Do You
Remember Love? is the name of the anime movie
based on the original TV series. Its the U.N.
Spacy (earthlings) vs the insectile-mechanical Zjentohlauedy
(pronounciation, anyone?) with many of the Homeworld single
player bit player races being replaced as well. Some of the
preliminary models and screengrabs looked promising, but
this mod is discontinued. You can chase up its forums
for more announcements and info here.
Last version: 1.35. There's a downloadable
here
at JST-Online.
You may also want to check out the Homeworld2
TC of the same name. |

Ships
of
the Line |
|

This mod removes all corvettes and strikecraft except for
the Scout to leave the game as a
capital ship class biffo fest, in the same spirit of the dreadnoughts
of old. Range and power of many of the super-capital ships
has been increased, and there's a new super-duper capital
class of ship available, although this ship class uses the
same models as the regular super capital ships. Eventually,
these mega ships will be modeled. Of note are the rather scary
Ballistic Missile Destroyers that
can literally bombard targets right across the map. Its
gone, along with its original host,
The OutPost.

Turanic
Vs Kadeshi |
|
An
early, never completed Homeworld mod pitting the Kadeshi
and Turanic Raiders against one another.
Due to certain limitations in the Homeworld game and a slight
lack of interest, only a large chunk of the Turanic side was
ever released, hosted at HWMods.de.
Oh dear - site lost! Last version:

Wild
Universe |
|
Its incomplete, but WU
is a crazy collage of weird and wonderful ships that replacing
the regular Homeworld shipping: you get Doctor Who's TARDIS,
Blake 7's Liberator, Space: 1999's
Eagle, Galaxy Quest's
Trek-esque cruiser, the movie Aliens' Sulaco,
the Last Starfighter, the Lexx
and even a Space Invader.
Its another orphan from the mostly non-functional
TGU, unfortunately. You can find it here
at JST-Online,
though. Have fun! |
