Homeworld REMIXES These mods preserve
the original ship models but change their vital statistics and
hack the game mechanics, producing new rules and flavours of
gameplay. Retunes are generally much smaller and easier to download
since there's no new ship models and textures to go with them.

game! |

Heroes
of
Homeworld |
|
A retune
of the game's existing ships to make for a more tactical,
less production driven game. Adds a few extra features such
as limitless weapon range, ships rocking under fire, friendly
fire, and gravitational effects from objects in space.
Current version: 4.0. Author R-Force. |

Homeworld:
Extreme |
|
This was
to be "a definitive mod for Homeworld" (shouldn't that be The
Definitive?); HW:Extreme planned to
retune the game to emphasise the importance of every ship instead
of "just brute force attacks". It was to rebuild the single
player missions, ship stats, animations and add a few extra
custom designs of its own for good measure. Unfortunately, it
never really produced anything, and for a long time now large
chunks of the web site have been missing...

Lightning
Mod |
|
A retune emphasizing
speed and Strikecraft battles for faster and more furious game
play. This is another mod by Packrat, and contrasts with his
Heroes
of Homeworld mod. All craft travel faster, all weapons pack
more damage, and support vessels repair at half the rate. The
latest version, 2.2, follows with
Kushan forces retuned to be fast and light, and the Taiidan
slow and heavy. Of note is the way that the mod has adjusted
the game engine so that ship models don't grow in size as you
dolly the camera away from them. |

Before:
Basic Frigate gunfight: simple weapons effects,
and old ion beam colours. |

After:
flashy, high-rez impact effects, and standardised
ion beam colours and styling for each side. |

 |
| This
recent mod simply tarts up the graphics in Homeworld
by making some sublte tweaks to the level of detail
in ships. Its a result of the modding community feeling
that Homeworld's single player campaign was better than
the sequel's, but frustrated at the now aged and modest
look of the first. Remarkably, it seems compatible with
online gaming at Won.net against
regular, unmodified games.
The most notable change is a subtle one: the levels
of detail (or LoD)
for all shipping has been removed, so all ships retain
their detail as you track the camera away, and don't
switch to smaller, lores models. A number of weapon
effects have been changed too, with high resolution
impacts and colour coded ion beams: blue for Hiigarans,
red for Taiidani. Other changes to be implemented will
include more details trails, "improved" turrets
and other items.
Current version: 0.9. This
only plays in multiplayer - playing the single player
campaign will simply crash out Homeworld. You can download
it at Homeworld
Access's Mod
Downloads page. See also, Colonel
Pepper's Babylon 5 Mod Resources, which might be
incorporated into this mod - its notable for some pretty
spiffy explosions. |

Homeworld with real
physics. Another remix of the existing units, where there
is no upper speed limit for ships and adjustments to vision
distance to compensate. Needs some beta testers! Author Packrat. |
