Age
of
Squats |
|
Squats
are W40K's equivalent of fantasy dwarves. They're part of the storylines'
"subhuman" mutations that inhabit the human colonies in
the galaxy. In this mod they will appear in two major forms: the
Imperial Squats and Chaos
Squats. So far, its very early days with little to show for
itself.
This mod is now defunct. There are however,
a large selection of modding tutorials
based on actual user experience still posted here, along with all
the resources and files that were part of the mod, made available
to the DoW modding community. |

Archangels
Mod |
|
Another Space
Marine chapter add-on. This one has plans for a campaign to go with
it as well. You can chase up its trials and tribulations at its
RelicNews forum thread.
There's nothing to see, yet. Or ever. Its dead.

Black
Templars
Mod |
|
Very simple really. This adds the Black Templars
chapter as a whole new Space Marine race to the game. For more details
on these black painted dudes, you read about the originals
at Games Workshop. Looks like it died from lack
of interest. |

Dark
Conquest |
|
No idea what
its about, other than it'll probably something dark and warlike
and set in the 41st millennium, involve some dire chaotic threat
to the Imperium (or some such) and possibly never, ever get past
the stage of being a fan's wild idea. As it is, this mod launched
in 2003, made one or two posts and then went completely dead. Not
even stillborn, I'm afraid... You can try its own FreeWebs
forum. |

Dark
Eldar
Mod |
|
It seems if
a fantasy universe has Elves in it, then odds are there's a "dark"
version of them lurking in the mountains somewhere... This is based
on the tabletop's original Dark
Eldar, who are cruel packs of rogue Eldar preying on planets
and shipping like pirates of old and kidnapping people to sacrifice
to the Chaos Gods. They're a lot like the Eldar version of the Chaos
Marines. This mod seems to have its fair share of gothic elvish
chickie babes with big... swords and bare midriffs. This looks organised,
but has nothing to show as yet; you can chase its RelicNews Forum
thread here.

Eclipse
of
Existence |
|
Adds an extra
race based on the original W40K tabletops: the Necrons.
The Necrons are cadaverous robots who have awoken from their 60
million year slumber to find the galaxy infested with the living.
Naturally, they're a bit put out by this state of affairs, and feel
the need to rectify things. Necrons are basically W40K's equivalent
of all those skeletons you found lurking it your typical role playing
dungeon crawl. See also: modDATABASE
entry. This mod has started producing some impressive preview
videos. This has now been cancelled.
There's a second Necron
Mod that's doing quite well. |

Epic
Legions Mod: Tiny little infantry, monstrous great hulking armoured
Titans. This mod is based on Specialist
Games' (a spin-off of Games Workshop) Epic
Warhammer series. Epic scales up W40K by an order of magnitude:
instead of squads and the odd tank, you deal with legions of infantry
and monstrous war machines called Titans and super-heavy armour armed
with battleship class weaponry. Last version: 0.2
alpha. This mod is now defunct - you can
read why here. |

Eye
of Terror
Mod |
|
Games Workshop
frequently uses story-driven campaigns to organise Warhammer 40K games,
the latest of these being their original Eye
of Terror campaign. The Eye in question is a vast "warp storm",
the size of a significant chunk of the galaxy, spewing forth all manner
of demonic beasties and villains (and collectibles - chk-chnng!)
that test the Human Imperium to its limits and threatens to overwhelm
the galaxy with chaotic evil. The
Eye of Terror mod adds a new side: the Undivided
Chaos, built by modifying the existing Chaos
Marines by adding a number of extra units which turn out to
be regular Space Marine Dreadnoughts and Imperial Guard units. Now
defunct. Last version: 0.7.3b. |

Fairness
Mod
 |
|
Formerly known
as the Orky Fairness Mod. This began life
off as a balancing mod for the underpowered Orks in Winter
Assault 1.41 patch. It, like many re balancing mods before
it, went off and tweaked everything! As a rough guide, to the old
Fairness Mod, the Orks get their maximum
population cap increased to 160; get
stronger Slugga Boyz in melee; wimpier
Shoota Boyz in smaller squads (but able
to equip all their members with cheaper Big Shoota upgrades); the
Mega Armoured Nobz,
Mad Doks and the WarBoss now appear
earlier in Tier 2;TankBustaz can reinforce
to four; Ork Tier upgrades seem very rapid. Waaagh banners are more
expensive, but seem a lot more durable.
Other races get changed as well: Space Marines
have a stronger early game, and their Terminators
have received a few buffs; Chaos no longer
needs a Relic for its Obliterators, and
its Chaos Marines and Horrors
get a number of buffs that fill out their limitations as well. And
they get their Demon Prince (from the
original game's single player campaign climax) at long last! Eldar
can no longer spam vehicles by the three minute mark; they have
become lighter, faster and more hard hitting. However if they stand
still and try to duke it out with a mass of Marines, they'll get
cut down fast. Nevertheless, their Warp Spiders
now get three jumps. Fire Prisms
get nerfed. Imperial Guard gets a swag
of changes, ranging from building health scaling up with Tiers to
a greater emphasis on vehicles. There's much more besides. Worth
a look. Last version: 0.598. This
has been discontinued, replaced by the Fairness
2 Mod. |

Orky
Mod |
|
The Orks generally
had a really rough time of it in the 1.3 patch,
and this post 1.3 adjustment mod fiddles with the Orky Waaugh
Towers and Listening Posts so that
each additional tower adds to a small modifier that makes all Ork
buildings gain health points as time goes by. The idea that altering
this one element of the Ork's build tree will snowball through and
put the Orks on a more "even" keel with the other game
races. This mini-mod works fine in all versions of the original
Dawn of War only. While still available,
this mini-mod has been incorporated
into another mod. |

Rhinoz
Mod |
|
The Rhino
is the unarmed troop transport tank that no one ever used
in an Dawn of War multiplayer game prior to the 1.5x
patches. The Rhinoz
Mod addressed this, giving the Space Marine player a number of
armed Rhino armoured transport models to play with in keeping with
the original tabletop fluff and designs. See also: the Dawn
of War Rebirth mod and the Steel Legion
mods, which incorporate this mini-mod. Current version: 2.2
only works with the original Dawn of War,
version 1.3. Its waaay
out of date - but the Rhinoz have seen life elsewhere. |

Space
Wolves
Mod |
|
The Space
Wolves are a popular chapter of the Space Marines in War40K
tabletop circles (you can read up on them here).
The big gimmick is that they have better melee abilities than just
plain old ordinary Space Marines, come in Packs rather
than Squads, and they all look they've transformed under the full
moon. The Space Wolf Mod web
site has vanished, but you can locate a downloadable
version at DoWFiles.com
or browse its old RelicNews forum thread.
Last version: 0.9.
Space Wolf fans may want to check out the more livelier
13th Company Mod instead. |
