Dawn of War multiplayer games do not mess around. Its intense, and a helluva lotta fun. But - a lot of people get very uptight about their favourite side winning or losing. Tempers can fray. The game has been tweaked to cater for the Online multiplayer experience. And on Gamespy, where many anonymous players tend to not take prisoners. |

Welcome to the RTSC Guide to Dawn of War. It
exclusively covers the latest expansion, so when I mention DoW,
I really mean Dawn of War with the Dark
Crusade expansion. I don't touch the unexpanded game anymore, and
while I still play Winter Assault I'll eventually
migrate across to DC when all my mates have as
well. Obsolete RTSC pages will show the Winter Assault banner until they
get updated. For other info and strategy sites for this game, go here.
As I update pages to Dark Crusade, you'll see
the RTSC DoW Winter Assault banner up top replaced by the Dark Crusade
banner.
In keeping with the general theme of RTSC, this is an introductory guide
with social and casual gaming predominantly in mind. Social gaming is
competitive, but not to the exclusion of all else. In chess there's playing
for fun and playing for blood. The pressure of winning is secondary
to having a blast, mainly because the variety of gaming shrinks rapidly
when you simply bludgeon your way to a win. Enjoy the luxury of losing.
Spectacularly. And with style! A good loss is infinitely better
than a bad win.
Nevertheless, "imba abuse" and game balance are still compelling
issues: nothing wrecks a game, socially or competitively, when one overpowering
unit consistently wins time and time again simply because its used all
the time. Getting there is all the fun, and getting there in the most
interesting and memorable way is the whole point of this exercise. Most
people come to gaming for entertainment or to be sociable. This Guide
assumes (and prefers) Standard game rules, and
it's more about showing where everything is and what it does, rather than
try and supply you with some killer strats.
Learn the basics, and practise, and all else follows. Well... usually,
anyway. :)
Myself, I'm an unrepentant Ork
player - so any jaundiced views regarding non-Orkoid armies should be
taken with a large boulder of salt. Or a Choppa!
